The National Family Planning Program 2001 - 2002

Implementation Agency: the Center for Job Services and Socio- economic programs.

Objectives:

- To assure the employees of premises, cooperatives and non-state sectors to be fully aware of the importance of family planning for the sake of a happy family with two children at most.

- To strengthen human resources in the premises, cooperatives and non- state enterprises to meet the targets set in the national career of industrialization and modernization.

Beneficiaries: employees in premises, cooperatives and SMEs nationwide, especially those living in distant and remote areas with high birth rate.

Some main activities of the Program

To direct, popularize and implement the family planning in VCA. To survey the situation of employment and population and the process of family planning implementation in the premises, cooperatives and SMEs. To organize training courses and information, education and communication activities (IEC) appropriate enough to improve the awareness of the employees in the premises, cooperatives and SMEs.

The Gerling Support Development Programme (GSDP)

Duration: from April 2001 to December 2002 Implementation

Location: Thuan Chau district, S¬n La province

Project’s Objectives: To explore opportunities and possibilities to support the poor border provinces to protect natural resources and to develop commercial activities.

Main activities: Organizing field visits for experts to Son La province. Implementing forest protection and afforestation programme. Supporting farmers to change plant and animal structure. Installing 200 pilot biogas in Thuan Chau district. Participating in emigration programme in the hydro-electric station project in Son La province.

Vietnamese-Italian Technical Assistance Programme (Stone marble & granite extraction and processing sector (VIETECH)

Implementation partner: International Cooperation Promotion Center (ICPC) and Italian Confederation of Craftsmen and SMEs (CONFARTIGI- ANATO - Italia)

Donor: ASIA INVEST (Commission of the European Communities)

Beneficiary: VCA’s member companies (15 stone extraction and processing companies in Northern Vietnam)

Duration: from November 1999 to August 2002

Project Objectives: to support stone extraction and processing companies and cooperatives to enhance efficiency and sustanibility in a competitive market economy through provision of market services and tecnology consulting and export promotion.

Activities of Project: - Providing support services related to market and technology consultancy and export promotion for enterprises.

- Organizing workshops on business, technology, export market...
- Organizing training programs to enhance business capacity for enterprises.
- Producing publications, for example: CD-Rom, booklets...
- Formulating a project to set up an Export Promotion Consortium.
